Quondam Exploration

 

New Jersey Supreme Court of the Term of November in the year of our Lord one thousand & eighty seven – Sussex County; John Denn complains of Richard Fenn in custody and for that to wit that whereas Thomas Ingram Esq. Sir John Bridger and Rebecca his wife and Mary Eliot on the 5th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven at Newtown in the County of Sussex aforesaid had demised set and to farm let unto the said John Denn one messuage, one stable, one barn, one orchard, one garden, 150 acres of arable land, 150 acres of meadow land, 150 acres of pasture land, and 150 acres of woodland wit the appertanances situate at Newtown aforesaid in the County aforesaid land now or late in the possession of Casper Snook or his assigns to have and to hold the tenements aforesaid with the appertanances unto the said John Denn and his assigns from the aforesaid 5th day of March in the year aforesaid and during until the full end and terms of 14 years from thence next ensuing fully to be complete and ended. 

By virtue by which said several demises the said John Denn entered into the several tenements aforesaid with the appertanances and what possessed thereof until the aforesaid Richard Fenn afterwards to wit in the 6th day of that same month of March in the year aforesaid at Newtown aforesaid in the County of Sussex aforesaid with force and arms and unto the several tenements aforesaid above specified with the appertanances respectively demised to the said John Denn in manner aforesaid in and upon the possession thereof the said John Denn then there did enter him the said John Denn from his several farms aforesaid his several terms therein not being ended did eject expel and amove and him the said John Denn being so thereof ejected expelled and amoved from his possession thereof as aforesaid hath held out and as yet doth hold out and other harms to him the said John Denn then and there did bring against the peace of the State of New Jersey and to the damage of the said John Denn of 500 pounds and thereof he brings suit.
